Louis Comfort Tiffany

(1848-1943)

Louis Comfort Tiffany was an American artist and designer who lived from 1848 to 1933. He was best known for his work and innovations with stained glass windows.

The glass made at Tiffany Studios was called opalescent glass. It was varied in color and texture, even within a single piece of glass. By careful selection, Tiffany could use his glass to mimic foliage, fabric, water, or a sunlit horizon. He was, in a sense, painting with glass, as opposed to painting on glass.
